Graphic Design for the Web:
Lean and Mean

There is no substitute for good design, but good design for the web has its own special set of demands. Like a well-designed printed piece, a good website certainly must attract and hold the visitor’s attention, but it must do it FAST. The web has spoiled us. We want it now, because we can have it now.

Patience may be a virtue, but it is a limited commodity on the internet. If a site doesn’t appear quickly, most visitors will be off and running. So the trick is to keep the graphics and layout interesting without losing time. Optimized graphics and clean code are the keys — especially when traffic on the net is heavy.

Understanding the jargon and the technology is important — html, .jpg, .png, java script, cascading style sheets, .swf files, slices, nested tables — and making it all work on multiple versions of various browsers on different operating systems. There is more to it than meets the eye.

But in the end what visitors see is the important thing. Fast, attractive, organized, informative, easy to use — these are the things of good web design. This is what we do best, whether creating design elements from scratch or converting them from traditional print media.

We’ve mastered the tools; we’ve honed the skills, we’ve unleashed our imaginations. Designing for the web may have its own set of demands, but we love a good challenge.
